Within the past 24 hours, rumors began swirling about a potential sale of the Cleveland Browns. Well, Browns owner Randy Lerner has since issued statement saying this:
“In connection with current rumors and press inquiries, I can report that I’ve been approached by Mr. Jimmy Haslam, who is interested in making an investment in the Cleveland Browns. We are currently in negotiations and both sides have agreed to keep that dialogue and its details private. Given that any transaction would require League approval, care has been taken so that this process will not be disruptive to the organization, in particular the football team, as it prepares for the upcoming season. We will share further details or make an announcement if it becomes necessary.”
Here’s what I think
I’ve been a die hard Cleveland sports fan all my life. The Cavs, The Indians, and even the Browns have always had my loyalty 100%. However, the Browns just can’t seem to get it right. Losing season, after losing season makes it extremely difficult to remain a fan. I just told a guy a work that they should possibly sell the team, relocate them and put the money that was being spent on pro football into something more promising like rebuilding schools or revitalizing neighborhoods. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
